A 22-year-old man was killed in Jaipur’s Vidhyadhar Nagar area after a dispute between two groups escalated into a knife attack during a meeting reportedly organised to settle an earlier disagreement. The incident took place late Monday night near Mandir Mod, leaving the victim dead and his elder brother injured.
The victim has been identified as Shakir. According to the initial police investigation, the incident occurred at around 11:30 pm when the two sides had gathered to discuss an existing dispute and attempt a settlement.
What was expected to be a discussion to resolve the disagreement allegedly turned violent after an argument broke out between those present. Police are investigating the exact circumstances that led to the knife attack and the roles of the individuals who were at the scene.
According to the injured brother, Kayyum, 38, he had an ongoing dispute with some youths from the Bhatta Basti area over money. A meeting was arranged near Mandir Mod in Vidhyadhar Nagar to resolve the matter and reach a compromise.
Kayyum reportedly reached the meeting location alone initially. After seeing several young men at the spot, he became concerned that the situation could escalate and called his younger brother Shakir to the location.
Within a short time, around five to six youths were reportedly present at the spot. Some of them were allegedly sitting in vehicles while discussions over the previous dispute were taking place.
According to Kayyum’s account to police, the conversation gradually turned into an argument. The situation then escalated when knives were allegedly brought out and Shakir was attacked.
Shakir reportedly suffered a knife injury to his thigh. His elder brother Kayyum was also allegedly attacked during the confrontation and sustained injuries.
The injury to Shakir resulted in substantial blood loss. Family members and people nearby rushed him to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, where doctors began treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Shakir’s condition remained critical. Police said he died during treatment at around 2:30 am. His death transformed what had reportedly begun as an attempt to settle an old dispute into a murder investigation.
