Yash’s much-awaited film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is facing a sharp slowdown at the box office as it completes two weeks in theatres. On its second Tuesday, the action drama reportedly earned around ₹69 lakh net in India, marking another decline in its daily collections.
According to early box-office estimates cited by Times of India and Sacnilk, the film’s Day 14 collection was around ₹69 lakh, an approximately 8% drop from the ₹75 lakh it earned on its second Monday. With the latest figure, Toxic’s India net collection has reached around ₹247.19 crore.
The film’s India gross collection has crossed approximately ₹295 crore, while its overseas gross stands at around ₹43.30 crore. This takes Toxic’s reported worldwide gross collection to approximately ₹338.32 crore after 14 days.
The latest numbers underline how dramatically Toxic’s box-office momentum has changed since its opening day.
The film started its theatrical run with a massive ₹101.10 crore India net on Day 1, creating enormous expectations around Yash’s latest release. However, collections fell sharply from the second day onward and have continued to weaken as the theatrical run progresses.
Toxic’s first week was driven largely by its extraordinary opening. The film collected approximately ₹239.30 crore during its first seven days, according to Sacnilk’s tracking. However, the second week has been considerably weaker, with daily collections dropping into the low single-digit and sub-crore range.
The film earned around ₹5.45 crore on its second Wednesday and ₹4.25 crore on its second Thursday before dropping to ₹1.75 crore on the following Friday.
There was a brief improvement over the second weekend, with collections rising to approximately ₹2.28 crore on Saturday and ₹2.42 crore on Sunday. But that momentum did not continue into the following weekdays.
By the second Monday, the film’s collection had fallen to around ₹75 lakh.
Tuesday brought another decline, with the film managing only around ₹69 lakh.
The fall is particularly significant when compared with the film’s opening performance. Toxic went from collecting more than ₹100 crore in a single day to collecting less than ₹1 crore per day during its second-week weekdays.
The film’s language-wise performance also shows an interesting pattern.
On Day 14, the Kannada version reportedly contributed around ₹47 lakh, while the Hindi version earned approximately ₹22 lakh. This indicates that the Kannada market continues to provide an important share of the film’s remaining theatrical business.
Despite the slowdown, Toxic has crossed the ₹247 crore India net mark, which remains a substantial number in absolute terms.
However, the film’s reported production cost makes the situation considerably more complicated.
Several reports have estimated Toxic’s budget at around ₹500 crore, although production-budget figures for big films are often disputed and should be treated as estimates rather than officially audited numbers. Indian Express recently reported the estimated budget at approximately ₹500 crore.
That means the reported worldwide gross of roughly ₹338 crore does not necessarily translate into a ₹338 crore recovery for the producers.
Box-office gross is distributed among exhibitors, distributors and other stakeholders, while production and marketing expenses also have to be considered. Consequently, comparing a film’s gross collection directly with its reported budget does not provide a complete picture of profitability.
Toxic’s theatrical performance has nevertheless fallen short of the expectations created by its enormous opening.
The film stars Yash in the lead role and features an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria and Huma Qureshi. It is directed by Geetu Mohandas and was promoted as a large-scale gangster action drama.
The opening suggested that Yash’s star power could generate an enormous theatrical pull.
But the sharp decline after the first day indicates that the film struggled to maintain the same level of audience interest beyond its initial release.
The second-week numbers have made the situation even more challenging.
The film is now competing for screens and audience attention with newer releases, including Mirzapur: The Movie, which opened strongly after arriving in theatres on September 4. The new release has added further pressure on films already in their second or third week.
Toxic’s declining occupancy is another indicator of the challenge.
Sacnilk’s Day 14 tracking reported overall occupancy of around 18.7% for the film, with its remaining shows attracting considerably smaller audiences than during the opening period.
For a film with such a large reported production scale, maintaining strong occupancy throughout the theatrical run is crucial.
The film’s performance has also created complications beyond cinemas.
Recent reports indicate that the valuation of Toxic’s OTT rights has reportedly fallen dramatically following its theatrical performance. Indian Express reported that the makers were initially expecting a digital-rights deal of around ₹200 crore, while current reports suggest an offer of only around ₹30 crore.
If accurate, that would represent a significant reduction in the film’s expected post-theatrical revenue.
The OTT market can play an important role in recovering costs for large Indian films, particularly when theatrical collections are below expectations. A weaker theatrical performance, however, can affect the perceived value of streaming rights.
This makes Toxic’s remaining theatrical run particularly important.
The film still has the opportunity to generate additional revenue from domestic and overseas markets, but the extremely low daily collections suggest that its theatrical momentum is nearing the end of its major commercial phase.
The second Tuesday figure of ₹69 lakh is therefore more important as an indicator of the film’s trajectory than simply as another daily number.
It shows that the film has entered a phase where even reaching the next major domestic milestone will require considerable time.
The contrast between the opening day and Day 14 is striking.
Toxic opened with ₹101.10 crore net in India. Fourteen days later, its daily collection was only around ₹69 lakh.
That represents a dramatic contraction in daily box-office business.
Still, the film has not disappeared completely from theatres.
Its total India net remains close to ₹250 crore, while its worldwide gross has moved beyond ₹338 crore according to current reported estimates. The final outcome will depend on how long theatres continue allocating shows to the film and whether it can maintain even modest collections during the coming days.
For Yash, Toxic’s performance is likely to be closely watched because of the actor’s position as one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema.
His previous KGF films established him as a major pan-India star, creating enormous expectations for his subsequent projects.
Toxic was designed to build on that popularity with a large-scale production, a prominent cast and a distinctive visual style.
Its ₹101 crore opening demonstrated that the audience interest was undoubtedly there.
The challenge was converting that initial curiosity and fan-driven opening into sustained theatrical business.
The Day 14 figure suggests that the film has struggled to do so.
At the same time, the final verdict on Toxic should not be based solely on one collection figure or one box-office tracker.
Different tracking services can report slightly different numbers, particularly while figures are still being updated. Sacnilk’s live tracking, for example, can revise estimates as more data becomes available.
Therefore, the ₹69 lakh Day 14 figure should be viewed as an estimated collection rather than a final audited figure.
What is clear is that Toxic’s second-week performance has been significantly weaker than its spectacular opening.
With India net collections around ₹247 crore and worldwide gross around ₹338 crore after 14 days, the film still has a substantial cumulative box-office number. But with daily collections now below ₹1 crore, the remaining theatrical upside appears increasingly limited.
The next few days will determine how close Toxic can move toward its eventual final worldwide total.
For now, Yash’s film has reached a crucial stage in its theatrical journey: the blockbuster-sized opening has given way to a steep second-week slowdown, with Day 14 collections falling to around ₹69 lakh.
The film’s final commercial verdict will ultimately depend on its complete revenue picture, including theatrical shares, overseas performance, satellite and digital rights and other sources of recovery.
