A 27-year-old man’s death in Jaipur has taken a serious turn after his family raised suspicions over the circumstances in which he died. Mahesh Meena died on August 5 after he was found unconscious near 14 Number Puliya in the Vishwakarma area. What was initially treated as a death requiring further inquiry has now become a murder investigation after his father submitted CCTV footage to police and accused Mahesh’s wife and three other people of involvement.
According to the family, Mahesh had left home with his wife, Kavita, on the morning of August 5 to get medicines. The couple reportedly went towards Boraj in Bagru. When they did not return home by evening, Mahesh’s family became concerned and contacted Kavita.
At around 5 pm, Mahesh’s younger brother Manish reportedly spoke to Kavita. She initially told him that they were on their way home. Shortly afterwards, she allegedly informed him that Mahesh’s health had suddenly deteriorated and asked him to reach the area near 14 Number Puliya in Vishwakarma.
Manish reached the location with his sister Santosh and found Mahesh lying unconscious beside the road. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The account given to the family by Kavita subsequently became a major point of concern. According to her version, Mahesh had suddenly become unwell near the 200 Feet intersection in Shyam Nagar. She allegedly said that after he became unconscious, she took control of the motorcycle and tried to bring him home. When his condition worsened, she reportedly stopped near 14 Number Puliya and placed him beside the road before contacting the family.
Mahesh’s father, Babulal Meena, was reportedly not convinced by this explanation. Instead of accepting the death as a natural or unexplained incident, he and another son began examining CCTV cameras around the locations connected to the incident.
The family says the footage appeared to show a different sequence of events. According to Babulal’s allegation, Kavita was not travelling alone with Mahesh. The footage allegedly showed three young men accompanying her on two motorcycles, with Mahesh being transported on another motorcycle.
The people identified by the family in connection with the CCTV footage were Ganesh, Ajay Meena and Golu Prajapat. Babulal has alleged that the four people, including Kavita, were involved in a conspiracy to kill Mahesh. These allegations are part of the police investigation and have not yet been established as facts by a court.
The family also raised questions about the events following Mahesh’s death. After the post-mortem, his body was cremated. Kavita later travelled with family members to Haridwar for the immersion of Mahesh’s ashes. Meanwhile, his relatives continued examining CCTV footage and gathering information that they believed could help explain what happened on August 5.
A major part of the family’s allegations concerns Kavita’s alleged relationship with Ganesh. The family has claimed that the two had known each other for several years and that their relationship continued after Kavita’s marriage to Mahesh. The allegation is being examined as part of the investigation into the possible motive behind the death.
The family has also handed over videos to police that they say are connected to the case. In one alleged recording, relatives question Kavita about Mahesh’s death. According to Aaj Tak, she can be heard making comments suggesting that she was worried about being caught and facing consequences from her family. Another alleged video reportedly contains a conversation in which she speaks to a friend of Ganesh about the possibility of people involved in the matter being identified.
The legal significance of these recordings, however, will depend on their authenticity, context and how investigators establish the circumstances in which they were recorded. A video or statement provided by relatives does not by itself establish guilt, and police must verify the evidence before drawing conclusions.
The case was formally registered after Mahesh’s father approached the Vishwakarma police station on August 16, around 12 days after the death. The complaint names Kavita, Ganesh, Ajay Meena and Golu Prajapat and alleges that they were involved in Mahesh’s killing.
Police have now shifted the investigation towards establishing the exact cause of death and reconstructing the events leading up to it. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Kiran, the incident was initially treated as a possible natural death and a case of unnatural death was registered. Later, doubts emerged and CCTV footage became part of the investigation.
Investigators are examining several forms of evidence, including CCTV recordings, the post-mortem report, medical records, mobile phone call details and other material connected to the case. These pieces of evidence will be important in determining whether the allegations made by the family can be substantiated.
The post-mortem and medical findings will be particularly significant because the family has alleged that Mahesh may have been poisoned. At present, that allegation remains unproven. Investigators will need to establish whether medical and forensic evidence supports the claim and, if so, determine the substance involved and how it may have entered Mahesh’s system.
The CCTV footage could also become an important part of the investigation. If investigators independently establish the identity of the people shown in the footage and determine their movements on August 5, it could help reconstruct the sequence of events. Police will also need to determine whether the people visible in the recordings had any role in Mahesh’s death.
The case has attracted attention because of the delay between Mahesh’s death and the registration of the murder complaint. The family says its suspicions developed after independently examining CCTV footage around the incident locations. Police are now tasked with determining whether the footage and other evidence support the allegations.
Mahesh’s family has demanded strict action against those responsible for his death. His relatives maintain that the circumstances surrounding his final hours were inconsistent with the initial explanation given to them and want the investigation to establish the truth.
At this stage, it is important to distinguish allegations from established facts. Kavita and the three other people named by Mahesh’s father have been accused in the complaint, but the allegations must be tested through police investigation and the legal process. The reported CCTV footage, videos, medical evidence and call records will need to be examined together rather than independently.
The investigation is continuing, and police are expected to establish the precise cause of Mahesh Meena’s death, the events surrounding his final journey on August 5 and whether the accused individuals had any role in it. Until the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings establish otherwise, the claims of conspiracy and murder remain allegations.
