India’s electric two-wheeler market continued its strong growth in August 2026, even though monthly sales declined from the record levels seen in July. The latest sales data shows that established manufacturers are increasingly dominating the electric scooter race, with TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero Vida occupying the top positions.
According to August 2026 retail-registration data reported by Aaj Tak Auto, India’s electric two-wheeler segment recorded 1,83,204 units in August, representing a 67.05% increase compared with 1,09,673 units in August 2025. However, sales were down 10.35% from July’s 2,04,362 units.
The numbers show that the electric scooter market is continuing to expand rapidly despite the month-on-month slowdown. Industry data compiled from the Vahan portal puts August electric two-wheeler retail sales slightly lower at 1,82,936 units, while also confirming 67% year-on-year growth. The small difference between datasets is likely due to reporting and registration cut-off variations.
At the top of the August ranking was TVS Motor, which once again remained India’s best-selling electric two-wheeler manufacturer.
TVS recorded 48,938 electric two-wheeler sales during August, according to the Aaj Tak report. That was almost double the 25,646 units sold in August 2025, resulting in year-on-year growth of about 90.8%. TVS accounted for approximately 26.7% of the electric two-wheeler market during the month.
The TVS iQube continues to be the company’s primary electric scooter driving this performance.
TVS’s rise is particularly significant because the company has moved from being a relatively cautious participant in the electric scooter market to becoming the segment’s volume leader. Its eight-month performance has been even stronger, with the company selling more than 3.56 lakh electric two-wheelers between January and August 2026. That represents 77% year-on-year growth and gives TVS around 26% of India’s electric two-wheeler market during the period.
TVS had already surpassed its entire 2025 electric two-wheeler sales total before the end of August. Its July performance was particularly impressive, when it recorded 55,823 units, the highest monthly figure achieved by an electric two-wheeler manufacturer in India at that point.
The second position in August went to Bajaj Auto, which has rapidly strengthened its position in India’s electric scooter market with the Chetak.
Bajaj sold 41,114 electric two-wheelers in August, according to the Aaj Tak data. That represented an extraordinary 235.73% year-on-year increase, making Bajaj one of the biggest growth stories among the country’s established electric scooter manufacturers.
Bajaj’s performance is especially notable because the Chetak has benefited from the company’s established brand recognition and dealership network. The Chetak has also expanded its presence across different price points, helping Bajaj reach a broader group of electric scooter buyers.
The company sold more than 3.05 lakh electric two-wheelers during the first eight months of 2026, giving it around 22% of the market. Bajaj became only the second manufacturer after TVS to cross the three-lakh sales milestone in a calendar year.
This puts TVS and Bajaj in a particularly strong position.
Together, the two manufacturers accounted for around half of India’s electric two-wheeler market in August, according to industry analysis.
That is an important change in India’s EV landscape. The country’s early electric scooter market was heavily associated with newer EV-focused companies, but established two-wheeler manufacturers have increasingly taken control of the sales charts.
At number three was Ather Energy.
Ather sold 28,757 electric scooters in August 2026, compared with 19,210 units during the same month last year. This translates to growth of approximately 49.7%.
Ather remains one of India’s most important electric scooter brands despite being behind TVS and Bajaj in absolute monthly sales.
The company sold 2,29,099 electric two-wheelers between January and August, representing 83% year-on-year growth and giving it around 17% of India’s electric two-wheeler market.
The Ather Rizta has been a major volume driver for the company, particularly as demand for family-oriented electric scooters has grown. The company’s 450 range also continues to contribute to sales.
Ather has also introduced new products as it looks to expand its addressable market. The launch of the Konarc, with a starting price of ₹99,999, gives the company another product positioned toward customers looking for a more affordable entry into the Ather ecosystem.
The fourth position was taken by Hero Vida, which has emerged as one of the fastest-growing major electric scooter brands in India.
Vida recorded 19,007 electric two-wheeler sales in August, compared with 13,769 units in August 2025. That represents growth of roughly 38%.
Vida’s performance is particularly impressive when looking at its longer-term growth.
Between January and August 2026, Hero Vida sold 1,48,069 electric two-wheelers, up 151% year on year. Its market share increased from approximately 7% to 11
